Initial reports from 1982 documented the vessel sinking in the vicinity of Helmsdale, Scotland, with varying historical position reports logged during the incident. Subsequent hydrographic surveys conducted in 2008 by Gardline utilized multibeam sonar to search for the wreckage at the reported site. The STAR OF FAITH was not located during these sonar surveys and the site was officially disproved and categorized as a non-existent obstruction or dead record in hydrographic charts.
