Simplified Wreck Survey
The shipwreck of the vessel named Sofala is located at coordinates 19 48.433 S, 34 50 E in the waters of Beira Port. Historical survey records indicate the ship originally sank approximately 50 meters from the quay between berths 10 and 11, temporarily making those berths unavailable to shipping. Subsequent hydrographic reports noted the wreck settled with its mast visible at low water and was temporarily marked by four orange unlit buoys. Later official assessments confirmed that the vessel was refloated and the wreck is no longer in evidence, having been removed in total from the location.
