Simplified Wreck Survey
The underwater wreck site located at coordinates 51 59 N, 6 8.05 W lies in the Celtic Sea off the southeast coast of County Wexford, Ireland. Historically recorded by the UK Hydrographic Office as possibly being the San Conrado or the Hildefjord, this marine casualty was first logged in May 1945 through the Western Approaches Command. Hydrographic survey reports describe the vessel as having an estimated length of 260 feet, a height of 24 feet, and a hull orientation lying along an axis of 060 to 240 degrees at an approximate depth of 22 fathoms (65 meters). Historical observations also noted that the wreckage gave off paraffin oil. While originally charted near these coordinates and an alternate position at 51 53 00 N, 06 10 06 W, an extensive seabed search by HMS Beagle in June 1979 found no trace of the hull at this exact site. Consequently, the hydrographic record for this specific charted position was amended to dead and deleted, with further investigation directed to related survey record 11805.
