Simplified Wreck Survey
The underwater wreck of the Rio Mero is located at coordinates 36 40.4 N, 2 45.46 W off the coast near Punta de las Entinas in Spain. Historical survey records show the vessel originally stranded on a rock in February 1970 while carrying a cargo of ammonia. The ship was subsequently sold for scrap and rough dressing to Baleato, after which the cargo disappeared. In October 1971, the British yacht Carlina stranded on the wreck. By 1972, the Rio Mero was recorded as a sunken wreck lying 1.5 meters underwater, with subsequent clearance work in March 1973 reducing its depth to 2.5 meters. A south cardinal pillar light buoy flashing Q(6)+LFL.15S was later established close to the west of the obstruction. Updated Spanish hydrographic surveys adjusted the charted position of the wreck to 36 40.48 N, 02 45.39 W.
