Simplified Wreck Survey
The underwater wreck of the vessel Nam Hai is located in the South China Sea off the coast of Sarawak, Malaysia, at position 3 10.775 N, 112 46.808 E. According to UK Hydrographic Office surveying records, the wreck was first reported in 1997 by the Royal Malaysian Navy. In May 2002, hydrographic notes recorded that the vessel was not shown on Malaysian chart 741, and while listed in the Lloyds Register, it did not appear in casualty reports from October 1996 to March 1998, suggesting a possible refloating. However, subsequent updates reinstated the entry, with Malaysian Notice to Mariners classifying it as a dangerous wreck in August 2002 at 03 10.78 N, 112 46.80 E. Following chart amendments on Sarawak charts 401 and 6 in 2006, the position was officially refined in February 2009 to coordinates 3 10.775 N, 112 46.808 E on WGS84 datum.
