Circumstances of loss
BUILT IN 1919 BY W DOXFORD & SONS. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY KULUKUNDIS SHIPPING CO. TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE OF 619NHP. PASSAGE AMSTERDAM FOR PANAMA CITY. ENCOUNTERED HEAVY WEATHER, THERE WAS AN INTERNAL EXPLOSION AND THE SHIP BROKE INTO TWO. BOTH PARTS REMANIED AFLOAT WITH 17 MEN ON THE FORE PART AND 14 AFT. 4 WERE DROWNED JUMPING FOR RESCUE BOATS. DISASTER OCCURRED IN 433000N, 280000W BUT THE WRECK WAS STILL AFLOAT 11 DAYS LATER IN 430900N, 312200W. (DODS).
