Simplified Wreck Survey

UK Hydrographic Office shipwreck survey data for the Malta II probably a steel steam trawler located off the coast of Scotland near the Orkney and Shetland waters at coordinates 58 58.668 N, 2 29.947 W. The wreck position was examined using DGPS showing a least multibeam depth of 69.2 meters in a general depth of 71.2 meters. The intact vessel lies at a heading of 147 to 327 degrees with bows towards 147 degrees inside a large scour depression measuring 1.8 meters deep and extending 30 meters towards 240 degrees with well defined sandwaves locally. Structural dimensions include a length of 33.8 meters a width of 7.2 meters and a height of 2.2 meters with a collapse noted in the forward hold area. Historical diver reports from 2000 indicate the vessel is buried to the gunwales and features a single boiler and a two cylinder compound engine.
