The wreck of the Mahratta 1 is a historically documented underwater obstruction located off the coast of the United Kingdom at coordinates 51 14.484 N, 1 28.179 E, situated in the Goodwin Fork region. Initially recorded in 1910 and historically managed by Trinity House, the site has undergone multiple surveys over the last century. Early reports described the vessel as lying on its side on a chalk bottom, while subsequent 1972 diver investigations identified the wreck lying upright with significant structural features, including boilers and engines. Despite historical references to demolition and blasting, modern hydrographic surveys conducted in 1974 by HMS Enterprise and later digital multibeam sonar datasets from 2019 have failed to locate the structure. Due to these findings and potential position errors in historical records, the Mahratta 1 is currently classified as a dead or non-existent wreck site in official navigation datasets.
