Simplified Wreck Survey
UK Hydrographic Office survey records for the underwater wreck known as JAP, located at coordinates 16 22.547 N, 96 18.12 E near the Yangon River and Rangoon in Myanmar, document its historical status and navigational markings from 1945 onward. Initial 1945 reports noted two masts and a funnel visible. A green conical light buoy flashing every second was established nearby in 1946 by the Port Surveyor of Rangoon. By 1960, the wreck was classified as dangerous to navigation by HMS Alert, and subsequent buoy positions were adjusted. A 1979 survey noted the wreck as dangerous with a sand bank encroaching on the position, leading to the deletion of the buoy. Burmese Navy and Myanmar port authorities confirmed in 2008 that the wreck charted on BA 833 still exists within the port limits of the Yangon River.
