Simplified Wreck Survey
The shipwreck Iolanthe is an underwater obstruction located off the south coast of England in the English Channel, near Dorset, at coordinates 50 27.667 N, 2 8.067 W. Sunk by the submarine UC 76, the wreck lies in a general depth of 41 meters with a least echo sounder depth of 35 meters. Historical and diving surveys describe the structure as approximately 110 meters long and 25 meters wide, oriented SSE to NNW with the bows facing SSE. The stern is almost completely buried in the seabed, while the bow stands well clear alongside the boilers and condenser. The highest remaining structural parts include the forward mast and derricks, which rise 4 to 6 meters above the seabed. Cargo details note straw in the forward hold, alongside railway lines, bogey wheels, and trucks in other holds, with various metal plates and wreckage scattered on either side.

RAILWAY LINES, BOGEY WHEELS AND TRUCKS IN OTHER HOLDS. VARIOUS PLATES AND WRECKAGE LIES EITHER SIDE OF THE WRECK. SCOUR DEPTH 3MTRS. (M WELCH, 9.9.93). CHART AS USCPA 30MTRS. - NM 3273/93.
