BUILT IN 1925 BY HAWTHORN LESLIE. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY THE PENINSULAR & ORIENT STEAM NAVIGATION CO. QUADRUPLE EXPANSION ENGINES FOR 17 KNOTS. EIGHT 6 INCH GUNS. INTERCEPTED AND SUNK BY SCHARHORST AND GNEISENAU (11 INCH GUNS), THE ACTION LASTING 40 MIMUTES. 37 MEN RECOVERED BY GERMAN SHIPS, 265 MEN LOST. WAS THE FIRST REQUISTIONED ARMED MERCHANT CRUISER LOST DURING WW2. (WW2SL & DODS).
