13.4.1941 VESSEL, BUILT IN 1926 BY HARLAND & WOLFF, WAS ORIGINALLY OWNED BY PENINSULAR & ORIENTAL STEAM NAVIGATION CO. WAS TAKEN OVER BY THE ADMIRALTY AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR FOR SERVICE AS AN AUXILIARY CRUISER. WAS ENGAGED IN CONVOY DUTIES IN THE NORTH ATLANTIC WHEN SHE WAS TORPEDOED AND SUNK BY GERMAN SUBMARINE U 107 ON 13.4.1941. 41 LIVES LOST. (DODS, LL WW2 & AXIS SUBMARINE SUCCESSES 1939-1945).
