Originally reported as sunk in 1918 and subsequently updated with amended positions, the site was subjected to multiple hydrographic surveys throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. Despite thorough searches including sonar sweeps and magnetometer surveys by vessels such as HMS Bulldog and Beagle in 1977, as well as subsequent modern multibeam surveys in 2016, the wreck of HMS Achilles II has not been located and is officially classified as dead or non-dangerous with no further action taken.
