Simplified Wreck Survey
The shipwreck Groeswen (probably) is an underwater obstruction located off the southeast coast of England in the North Sea near the Thames Estuary and Sunk Lightvessel. Official UK Hydrographic Office survey records document the World War I era wreck, which sank after striking a mine or vessel, with its precise modern coordinates established at 51 53.16 N, 1 37.747 E. Comprehensive hydrographic surveys conducted by Royal Navy vessels and commercial surveyors including HMS Egeria, HMS Beagle, and MMT between 1974 and 2016 provide detailed structural descriptions of the submerged steel wreck. The large sunken vessel measures approximately 107 meters in length, 18 meters in width, and stands with a height of 7.8 meters above the seabed, lying on an orientation of 021/201 degrees. Over decades of marine deterioration, the wreck has transitioned into a severe state of collapse and is lying on its side with associated debris fields on the eastern side, a strong magnetic anomaly, and a least multibeam depth of 14.2 meters resting within a general surrounding seabed depth of 22 meters.
