Simplified Wreck Survey

Underwater wreck survey details for the Fram bow section possibly located at coordinates 57 42.084 N, 2 10.632 W off the coast of Scotland. Historical hydrographic survey records note that the position was originally reported by the Wick Coastguard on February 2, 1940. A large underwater obstruction was subsequently reported in the area on July 22, 1986, by a local fishing skipper and investigated by HMS Bulldog. A follow-up survey on January 16, 1987, found nothing in the area of smooth sand and mud, leading surveyors to amend the status to dead.

EX-RUSS. BUILT IN 1897 BY SIR RAYLTON DIXON & CO, MIDDLESBROUGH. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY ANGF A/B 'KJELL'. THREE BOILERS, TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE OF 233NHP, SINGLE SHAFT. PASSAGE STOCKHOLM FOR HARTLEPOOL. TORPEDOED WHILE AT ANCHOR BY U-13. BROKE IN TWO. BOW SANK IMMEDIATELY AND STERN SECTION DRIFTED FOR 25 MINUTES BEFORE SINKING. (SIBI).
