Circumstances of loss
VESSEL, BUILT 1942 BY YARROWS. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY MINISTRY OF WAR TRANSPORT (SIR R ROPNER & CO.). WAS AT PORT AUGUSTA DURING THE ALLIED LANDINGS AT SICILY. SHE WAS ATTACKED BY GERMAN BOMBERS & SUSTAINED SEVERAL DIRECT HITS WHICH EXPLODED THE AMMUNITION, KILLING 40 MEN & WOUNDING MANY SURVIVORS. SHE EVENTUALLY SANK. (DODS, LLWW2, & WW2SL).
