Simplified Wreck Survey

The shipwreck of the Empire Portia possibly lies off the coast of southern England in the English Channel at coordinates 50 34.128 N, 0 33.354 W. Originally sinking during World War II with historical records noting the event as WW2SL, the site was later reported in July 1976 and located using an echosounder near 50 34.055 N, 0 33.158 W via Decca navigation. Subsequent hydrographic surveys in October 2003 by Gardline failed to locate the wreck, leading to its classification as dead, and a 2017 review of multibeam sonar datasets by CEFAS confirmed it was not found, resulting in no further action.
