Circumstances of loss

STRUCK A FLOATING DERELICT OFF ALEXANDRIA WHEN ARRIVING FOLLOWING VOYAGE FROM ROTTERDAM. BADLY HOLED IN ENGINE ROOM AND NO.4 HOLD. SHE WAS BEACHED NEAR ENTRANCE TO GREAT PASS AND 6 DAYS LATER BROKE IN TWO. THE FORWARD SECTION CAPSIZED AND SANK AND THE AFTER SECTION REMAINED ALMOST COMPLETELY AWASH. VESSEL, BUILT 1949, WAS OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY ASTRO ASPIRANTE CIA, NAV S.A. (MSD)
