Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1959 BY A STEPHEN & SONS LTD, GLASGOW. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT. PASSAGE DALIAN FOR ZHANJIANG. SANK FOLLOWING A COLLISION WITH INDONESIAN MV 'GUNUNG KLABAT', WHICH HAD FAULT IN HER STEERING GEAR. CREW OF 59 RECOVERED. FOUR DAYS LATER STRUCK BY BRITHS MV 'STRATHETTRICK' CAUSING HOLING AND FRACTURING OF NUMEROUS SHELL PLATES AND FLOODING OF NO 2 LOWER HOLD. WATER DAMAGE OCCURRED TO SOME 2100 TONS OF CARGO. (MSD).
