(BOT). 1.10.01 WK LIES UPRIGHT WITH A SLIGHT LIST TO PORT IN GEN DEPTH 158MTRS. BURIED IN THE SEABED MORE AT THE BOW THAN AT THE STERN, ALTHOUGH THE DECKS REMAIN WELL CLEAR. FWD AREA IS SQUASHED BUT MIDSHIPS AREA FROM THE BRIDGE AFT IS INTACT. PARTIALLY NETTED. IDENTIFIED BY RECOVERED CROCKERY PLATES. (DIVER MAGAZINE, OCT 2001). NCA.

TORPEDOED AND SUNK BY GERMAN SUBMARINE U 55, WHILE ON PASSAGE LIVERPOOL TO THE USA. FIVE OF THE CREW WERE KILLED. 215 SURVIVORS. THE 'CARPATHIA' WAS THE SHIP WHICH HAD RENDERED GREAT SERVICE IN PICKING UP THE SURVIVORS OF THE 'TITANIC'. (DODS & DER KREIG ZUR SEE).
