H2492/84 12.3.86 WK VIRTUALLY COMPLETELY REMOVED, TOGETHER WITH PIER ALONGSIDE WHICH IT LAY. (LLOYDS VOL.263). AMENDED TO LIFT. NCA.

VESSEL, BUILT 1973 BY S.A. JULIANA CONSTRUCCIONES GIJONESA, GIJON. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY COMPANIA ARRENDATARIA DEL MONOPOLIO DE PETROLEOS S.A. [CAMPSA]. SANK ALONGSIDE C.E.P.S.A. REFINERY JETTY FOLLOWING EXPLOSION AND FIRE, THOUGHT TO HAVE ORIGINATED IN M TANKER 'PETRAGEN ONE', WHICH WAS BERTHED ON OPPOSITE SIDE OF SAME JETTY. THERE WERE 35 DEATHS INCLUDING SEAMEN & DOCKWORKERS, 39 MEN WERE ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL. WRECK REMOVAL BY SALVAGE COMPANY NEPTUN TRANSPORT & MARINE SERVICE BEGAN DEC '85 & COMPLETED FEB '86. (MSD & LLOYDS VOLS.260, 262 & 263).
