Simplified Wreck Survey

The historic shipwreck of the C LENA is located at coordinates 47 14.24 N, 2 15.913 W, positioned off the Atlantic coast of France in the Bay of Biscay, near the mouth of the Loire River estuary and the approaches to Saint-Nazaire. First recorded by the UK Hydrographic Office and French authorities in January 1946, the site was charted as a dangerous underwater wreck and navigational obstruction marked by green conical and spar navigational buoys. Subsequent surveys through 1948 updated the buoyage marking the sunken vessel to maintain safe marine navigation in the area. In September 1955, maritime clearance and dispersal operations were initiated to reduce the underwater obstruction. Following these dispersal operations, the wreck status of the C LENA was amended to dead and officially deleted from active navigational charts in November 1956, confirming that the remaining wreckage on the seabed was sufficiently cleared and no longer posed a danger to surface shipping.
