Simplified Wreck Survey

The shipwreck of the oil tanker Ampuria is located off the coast of Gujarat, India in the Arabian Sea at coordinates 21 49.897 N, 69 21.027 E. Originally grounded 500 yards offshore following an engine breakdown on October 13, 1970, the vessel successfully offloaded its cargo of oil before subsequent salvage operations failed. Despite multiple attempts to refloat and repair the welded steel structure, the vessel was heavily battered by monsoon seasons, broke apart on site in 1979, and was ultimately abandoned as a well broken underwater wreck.
