VESSEL, BUILT 1907 BY SWAN, HUNTER & WIGHAM RICHARDSON, WAS ON PASSAGE FOR W AFRICA WHEN SHE DEVELOPED ENGINE TROUBLE DURING BAD WEATHER IN THE BAY OF BISCAY ON 10TH JAN 1920. 3 VESSELS STOOD BY WAITING FOR CALMER WEATHER TO ENABLE TOWING. THE VESSEL FINALLY STRUCK ROCHEBONNE REEF 2DAYS LATER, WAS HOLED & SANK. ONLY 32 OF THE 585 PASSENGERS & CREW ON BOARD SURVIVED. OWNED AT THE TIME OF LOSS BY CHARGEURS REUNIS. (DODS).
