BUILT IN 1942 BY FEDERAL SHIPBUILDING & DRY DOCK CO. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY AMERICAN SOUTH AFRICAN LINE INC. TURBINE ENGINE. WAS TORPEDOED & SUNK BETWEEN RIO DE JANEIRO & NEW YORK. A LIFEBOAT WAS RECOVERED. OF THE 55 CREW & 28 GUNNERS, 1 GUNNER WAS LOST. (DODS & LL WW2).
