VESSEL, BUILT 1947 BY N.V. KONINKLIJKE MAATS. 'DE SCHELDE', VLISSINGEN. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY STARLAURO S.P.A. CAUGHT FIRE & BURNED OUT. LATER THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION IN THE FWD PART OF THE SHIP, SHE CAPSIZED & SANK. 997 PASSENGERS SURVIVED. ONLY TWO PASSENGERS LOST. (MSD).
