Circumstances of loss
BUILT IN 1974 BY HYUNDAI SHIPBUILDING & HEAVY INDUSTRIES LTD, ULSAN. EX-PROSPERITY (1990) & EX-ATLANTIC BARON (1977). HAD AN EXPLOSION ON DECK FOLLOWED BY FIRE WHILE ON PASSAGE KHARG ISLAND FOR ROTTERDAM. WAS ABANDONED BY CREW WHILE STILL AFLOAT. COULD NOT BE FOUND BY SALVAGE TUG WHICH ARRIVED IN AREA SEVERAL DAYS LATER. PRESUMED TO HAVE SUNK. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY SOMATRA LTD. FIVE OF THE 32 CREW LOST THEIR LIVES. (MSD)
